The Battle Between Bioidentical Hormone Replacement and Synthetic Hormones

As bioidentical hormone replacement is growing more and more popular among consumers, the battle cry of synthetic hormone manufacturers is getting louder and louder. Why not? Apparently, it appears that these pharmaceutical companies are loosing huge on their investments.
This past month alone, the internet has been infiltrated with articles and news discrediting the safety and effectiveness of it. Misleading information questioning the lack of approval of the FDA on bioidenticals has been spread out all over the web. The loud quack, however, is proving to be ineffective. Instead, consumers are intrigued and the result of which is more and more synthetic users are switching to bioidenticals.

So where did this whole squabble begin? According to Dr. Jonathan Write, an advocate of bioidentical hormone replacement since the 1980′s, this whole issue spurred when an independent study was released stating that the use of synthetic hormones such as Premarin, Provera and Prempro could cause life-threatening issues. Evidently, the pharmaceutical companies where not happy about this. Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (Pfizer) made billions of dollars in the past years selling these synthetic hormones to American women and they are not simply going to sit on it as they watch it fly away.

It appears that Wyeth Pharmaceuticals made a mistake in formulating its synthetics. Instead of utilizing plant extracts to create natural hormones, they opted for the pregnant mare’s urine as the key ingredient of their products. It just so happened that natural hormones could not be patented and appeared to be less profitable at that time. The result of which, however, was detrimental, health and businesswise.

In the last 25 years, women on Premarin, Provera and Prempro have experienced severe side effects. The worst of which is breast cancer, which only came out after the Million Women Study confirmed it in its findings. It turns out, these synthetic hormones can cause depression, severe headache, dizziness, memory loss chest pain, fluid retention, numbness in arms and legs, blood clots, hair loss, acne, skin rashes, weight gain and nausea.

In contrast, the appropriate use of plant extracts in creating it had shown to be safe and without any sides effects for the hundreds of thousands of women users over the last 25 years. Instead, according to Dr. Wright, these hormones can extend the youthful years, invigorate the sex life, cut your risk of osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer, end hot flashes and other discomforts of menopause. It has proven to also to decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and senility.

Unfortunately, the bigger pharmaceutical companies refuse to manufacture bioidentical hormone replacements, as there is no money in this line of business. However, women are beginning to learn the significance of natural bioidentical hormone replacements and what they can do for them. The result of which is the growing market for bioidenticals and at the same time the loss of business of synthetic producers.

Today, the pharmaceutical market is faced with a big squabble. Pharmaceutical companies are using the medical battleground as an economic freeboard to discredit the good of it. One can only wonder if there is any genuine intent to this or a mere desperate cry for help from the dying. But women are not about to forget; synthetic hormones have caused many years for women who prescribed to them. It is greatly doubted if they would ever want to go back.

Types of Hair Loss

Alopecia is the general term for human hair loss, either on the body or on the head. As we know, hair loss mostly occurs in men, but certain conditions may cause women to lose some or all of their hair too. The most common type of hair loss, however, is Male Pattern Hair Loss, which – as the name suggests – is a typically male affliction. MPHL usually starts at the temples or on the crown of the head and causes the hair to progressively thin out over the course of a number of years. Eventually, this could lead to complete baldness or – more commonly – loss of hair on the top surface of the scalp.

Medical Solution for Hair Loss

There is a wide range of treatments on the market today, which claim to combat hair loss, ranging from specialist shampoos to hair transplants. These ‘solutions’ can be very costly and are often ineffective at best, especially in the long term. If you suffer from hair loss, the best thing to do is turn to your doctor for professional advice combined with prescribed medication.

One of the most effective medications for reducing Male Pattern Hair Loss and stimulating hair growth is Finasteride.

Donepezil is used for the treatment of mild to severe dementia as a result of Alzheimer’s disease. Neurotransmitters are natural compounds used to transmit messages in the brain. This medication works by increasing the amount of neurotransmitters, which have previously been killed off as the result of Alzheimer’s. By doing this, Donepezil improves patients’ cognitive processes, daily functioning and the general symptoms of dementia.
